The Indian Hill Reservation, once part of Indian Hill Farm, is now part of the Essex County Greenbelt Association.

2.5 Miles

Hike Time

1.5 Hours

It felt a little like September this morning as we trekked about 2.5 miles on the Greenbelt’s Indian Hill Farm Reservation in Newbury.

We cut the hike short because some of the trail dumps you out on the open road with little room for pedestrians. The trail starts with a 170′ uphill climb to get your blood pumping and then slopes down to a reservoir and some woodland and open pastures.

We were also able to find a bit of history here. Pictured below, you’ll see the graves of Jacob & Judith Sawyer – Sawyer Burial Grounds.

I found an article that said the headstones were moved from the middle of the field to its outer edge against the stonewall.

This is nice Essex County Greenbelt property in Newbury, MA.

I'm sure the people across the street were looking out their window and thinking - why is she taking a selfie in front of our neighbor's signpost?

A foot bridge along the trail.

Spring in New England did not disappoint.

The purple and white phlox were in full bloom along the trail. We also saw some skunk cabbage.
