Halibut Point Reservation in Rockport, MA is a beautiful snapshot of coastal Cape Ann. The 60′ deep Babson Farm quarry, which was owned by the Rockport Granite Company, was taken over by The Trustees of Reservations back in 1934.

The hike around the quarry and out to the rocks and back was about 2 miles – well worth the trip. Watch your footing, especially on the rocks covered with green algae – they are very slippery when wet, and stay out of the poison ivy.

As kids in high school, and unbeknownst to my parents, we used to sneak into the granite pits to swim on hot summer days. Today, public swimming is not allowed and to be honest it probably wasn’t encouraged back in the 70s either.

If you hike out to the grout pile on a clear day and look towards the right, you can see Newburyport, MA; Seabrook, NH; and Mount Agamenticus and the Isle of Shoals in Maine.

Our last stop of the day – the Lobster Pool Restaurant for a cool drink and a lobster roll – both were delicious!

The trail on the way in is very walkable and shady.

Trying to stay out of the poison ivy!

A couple of beauties!

No, I am not doing yoga - just catching a cool ocean breeze!
